Before Surgery

Follow these guidelines the day before your surgery to ensure your operation goes smoothly:

  • It is your responsibility to arrange in advance for a trusted, responsible adult to drive you home and remain with you for the first 24 hours after surgery. You cannot drive yourself home or be left alone.
  • If you have not been contacted one week prior to your procedure, please call the center for specific instructions at 859-810-8471.
  • Food and Liquids:
  • DO NOT eat any solid foods after midnight
  • You MAY have clear liquids up to 3 hours before your arrival time: Examples: water, black coffee, full sugar (unless you are diabetic) Gatorade, Powerade, or Liquid IV
  • DO NOT use mints, chewing gum or tobacco products.
  • Failure to follow these instructions may result in cancellation of your surgery.
  • You may brush your teeth, remembering not to swallow anything.
  • Please bring all medications you are taking with you to the surgery center; or bring a list of your medicines, the dosages, and how often you take them. Do not take any medications after midnight or the morning of surgery unless instructed to do so by your physician or the surgery center.

  • Please bathe or shower with antibacterial soap and shampoo prior to your surgery. Remove all makeup and do not use lotions or oils after bathing. Avoid use of deodorant for breast surgery.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as sweat suits, and easy-to-button shirts or blouses that are big enough to accommodate a large bandage after surgery.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. No high heels or sandals, please. •Leave all valuables, including jewelry and cash, at home. Anyone giving consent for surgery other than the patient or parent must bring a copy of the court order or power of attorney giving permission for them to consent to the planned procedure.
  • If you have a living will or advance directive, please bring a copy to the facility. If an adverse event occurs during your stay, based on the reasons of conscience, all reasonable efforts will be taken to revive you, including resuscitative or other stabilizing measures.
  • To ensure the comfort of all patients, visitors, and guests, we ask that no more than two people accompany you to the facility.
  • We request families remain at the facility or within a 30-minute drive of the facility.

After Surgery
